Our Green Story

Largest Solar Panel System In Illinois
“The Chamber of Commerce has reached new heights!” exclaimed Naperville Mayor George Pradel, “Thank you for doing this! This is going to be an example for all of the other businesses around here and hopefully it will catch on.” Great Western Flooring Owner and President, Steve Chirico, added “It was a long project…but it’s really turned out wonderfully. It’s great for the environment, it’s great for us here and we’re very proud.”

In fall of 2012, Great Western Flooring Company successfully completed one of the largest rooftop-mounted solar systems in the State of Illinois.

The rooftop array – made up of 644 panels – is expected to produce 180MW hours annually, the equivalent to powering approximately 42 U.S. households. The annual savings are comparable to reducing 131.36 tons of carbon dioxide, eliminating emissions of 14,109 gallons of gasoline or keeping 111 acres of forest absorbing carbon. Since the completion of the project, we are just shy of achieving LEED Certification for our warehouse facility – one of the goals of our green initiatives.

Our commitment to environmental sustainability does not end with our solar system. Whether it is a cradle-to-cradle material or one that is made from recycled content, it is our commitment to provide eco-friendly options that can be used in almost any project – commercial or residential. Our team is trained to provide Greenguard Certified installation systems that benefit our clients during and long after their projects.

Other eco-friendly goals that we are proud to practice include using hybrid and diesel vehicles as part of our company fleet, converting our design center lighting system over to an LED system and recycling all carpet and padding from our installations that is used to make new carpet and padding material. We ensure that our practices are in line with environmental responsibility & we appreciate your support in helping us reduce our carbon footprint.
