Saxony Carpet

The saxony style is a traditional pattern that defines what most people think when they consider carpeting. While it has been around for more than a century, saxony-style carpet really became popular when industrial production took over the industry. More specifically, it is a traditional cut-pile carpet with essentially vertical fibers cut to an even length. It is generally not as long as a frieze, but stands higher than the average berbers or any cut-and-loops carpets. Here are a few of its advantages:

Aesthetics – Though it has been around for a long time, the look – other than some of the more unusual colors – of saxony carpet never seeme to go out of style. It has a classic look that can works well in both formal and casual settings. It is a very “regular” carpet because of its uniform color and height and therefore serves as an excellent backdrop for almost any décor. When properly selected and maintained, it can remain beautiful for a decade or more.

Texture – One of the chief benefits of saxony carpet is the comfortable feel of the carpet as a person walks across it. It is best to use the denser saxonies in hallways even though they fell a little stiff. Dens and bedrooms, however, benefit from the more pliable feel of less dense – and less expensive! – varieties. In either case, you and your family’s feet will enjoy the feel of a good saxony carpet.

Durability – Available in a wide range of materials – nylon, triexta, polyester and wool are the most common – saxony carpet can be used in almost any environment – residential or commercial. In addition, the durability of saxony carpet will also depend on the twiet of the fiber and its density. For home use, the more affordable varieties are completely acceptable while commercial areas with high traffic should invest in the denser, high-twist types.

Cost
– A good saxony carpet can be purchased for as little as $1.00 per square foot. It is prudent, however to spend $2.50/sq. ft for areas like the basement. Family rooms can be carpeted for around $4.00/sq. Ft and bedrooms should get the highest quality at $6.00/sq. ft.
